Hi everyone,
When I turned 27, something shifted for me. I was stuck in a job going nowhere, single, and still living with my parents. On my birthday, I decided to just book a few random trips without overthinking it, and one of them ended up being to Estonia.
I arrived in Tallinn, tried some local food including bear, and started chatting with people. I am the kind of person who can strike up a conversation with anyone, so after a while I ended up joining a group of locals heading to a rural place called Kabala.
That part of the trip was incredible. There were cabins, a sauna, and the Vigala River nearby. We spent about a week just relaxing, eating, drinking, reading, and swimming. It felt completely removed from everything.
After that, we all went back to Tallinn and I decided to continue the trip on my own. I noticed there was a ferry to Helsinki and figured I might as well go since I had never been to Finland.
Helsinki was noticeably more expensive, but I enjoyed exploring the city on foot. I also tried reindeer for the first time, had a few drinks, and then eventually headed home.
It was a spontaneous, intense, and memorable experience that I probably could not recreate, but I am really glad I did it.
