Spirit cancelled my flight a few hours before it was supposed to leave today. No real explanation. When I called, they blamed it on “air traffic control or weather or something uncontrollable,” even though other flights at the airport are operating fine.
There are no other Spirit flights leaving before Christmas within a five hour drive from me. They’re only offering a refund, which doesn’t help when the goal is actually getting to my family for the holidays.
Every other airline option is at least $1,200 right now. It’s last minute, Christmas travel, I’m flying with a cat, and I have a checked bag full of gifts. I planned this months ago and now I’m stuck choosing between staying home or spending a ridiculous amount of money because Spirit messed up.
Is there anything else I can push for beyond a refund? Rebooking on another airline, compensation, anything? Or am I just out of luck? Anyone else dealing with this at EWR?
