Flying into Madrid from South America, resting a couple days, then looking to base somewhere in Spain for May.
Budget is around €500 for a private room on Airbnb (shared kitchen/bathroom is fine). After that I’d try to arrange something direct with an owner.
What I’m looking for:
Small, walkable place
Chill vibe, not manic traffic
Easy on the eyes and wallet
Beach would be nice, not essential
Parks/green space
Safe
I’m fine with sleepy
So far I’ve looked at:
Denia
Alcoy
Murcia
Vigo
Gandia
Granada
Places that seem harder at that budget now:
Alicante
Cartagena
Hard pass:
Torrevieja
Madrid long term
Barcelona and Valencia would be ideal in another life, but prices look wild.
Has anyone actually managed €500/month in May recently in any of these spots? Or is that 2026 pricing wishful thinking?
Would love real world feedback, especially from people who’ve stayed longer term.
