I understand that military boarding on Southwest Airlines is a courtesy policy and not an obligation, but I experienced something confusing while traveling with my 5-year-old child.
A gate agent told me that only the military member could board early and that my child was not allowed to board with me under that priority. I understand the intent is to benefit eligible passengers, but in this case it was just the two of us, not a larger group boarding ahead of others.
I found this decision surprising, especially since I have had other Southwest gate agents on the same trip allow my child to board with me without any issue.
On a later flight, another agent allowed my child to board with me without question, so I am unsure whether this is inconsistent policy enforcement or individual interpretation.
Am I misunderstanding the rule, or is this just inconsistent application of common sense?
