On a recent flight from Indianapolis to Phoenix with Southwest Airlines, the plane was at least half empty with many open seats.
I was seated in a row of three with my wife on one side and another passenger on the other. We were near the front of the main cabin. The passenger next to us asked a flight attendant if he could move to one of the empty seats to give everyone more space.
The flight attendant responded that if he wanted a better seat, he should have upgraded earlier before the flight, and denied the request.
The empty seats remained unused for the entire flight.
Why would the airline not allow a simple seat change in this situation?
