I have to admit, southern Illinois has never really been on my radar, but after reading about how places like Shawnee National Forest, Makanda, and the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail are drawing more visitors, I’m starting to see the appeal. I love the idea of hiking along limestone bluffs and then winding down at a small local winery. The mention of Makanda being “Illinois’ most hippie town” kind of sealed it for me sounds like a fun, quirky stop. Has anyone here actually been?
Curious if it lives up to the magical, off-the-beaten-path vibe they’re pushing in the ads.
