Logged into Alaska today to look at flights and got locked out. Called support and found out my account was frozen because someone transferred my miles out.
Had to send in my ID and set up a PIN. What really bothered me is they couldn’t tell me when it happened or why I never got an email notification that my miles were transferred. That part is pretty unsettling.
I’ve seen a bunch of posts here about this happening lately, so I’m wondering how painful the recovery process usually is and how long it takes to actually get miles back.
Update: Alaska emailed saying my info was verified and a PIN was added, but I still couldn’t log in online. Called again and they confirmed the miles were restored using my account number. At least that part worked, but this whole thing was way more stressful than it should’ve been.
If you haven’t set a PIN on your Alaska account yet… probably a good idea.
