Armenia is actually a great choice, especially if you love culture, history, and museums. For a solo female traveler, including women in their 50s, it’s generally considered very safe. Violent crime is low, and locals are usually warm, curious, and genuinely helpful.
Yerevan is easy to navigate on foot and by taxi apps, and you’ll find plenty of museums, galleries, and historical sites. Outside the capital, guided day trips are common and a good way to see monasteries and heritage spots without stress.
Buses and marshrutkas between Armenia and Georgia are widely used and fine, if a bit basic. Many solo travelers take the Yerevan to Tbilisi route without issues. If comfort matters, there are also private minivans and shared transfers that can be booked ahead.
The biggest adjustment is less about safety and more about infrastructure and language, but patience goes a long way. Your experience traveling solo in Europe and North Africa will translate well.
It’s normal to feel a bit out of your comfort zone, but Armenia is one of those places that tends to surprise people in a very positive way.
Happy New Year and enjoy the planning
