Solo female in Borneo… Semporna was stunning, Mabul not so much

Just wanted to share this because I don’t see tons of firsthand info about Semporna from solo women.

I went alone and felt okay overall. The real highlight was the diving. Mataking, Timba, and Pandan were absolutely beautiful. Clear water, amazing marine life, and just unreal scenery. If you’re into scuba, it’s 100% worth it.

Tun Sakaran Marine Park was closed when I was there, so I did Mabul instead. Honestly… I wouldn’t really recommend it. It didn’t live up to the hype for me.

The town itself is small and there’s not much going on, but the beaches and dive spots are the reason you go anyway.
