So I booked a basic fare and thought everything was straightforward.
Yesterday during check-in I got placed on a standby list. After reading a few posts, I figured I would probably still end up with a seat and did not think too much about it.
Then this morning I got a message asking whether I wanted to volunteer to take a later flight, which immediately made me wonder if I actually had a seat confirmed.
Then another message came through saying overhead bin space may be limited. Since I am traveling for a short business trip, I really did not want to check my carry-on.
So I ended up paying $99 to select a seat... only to realize I was still in Group 8. Then I paid another $33 for upgraded boarding because at that point I was already committed.
By the end of it I felt like I had slowly been funneled into paying extra after extra. Started feeling like I paid traditional airline prices with ultra low-cost carrier style add-ons.
Anyone else feel like they have had a similar experience recently?
