Small Ships, Big Impact: Why Boutique Cruises Are the New Standard for Luxury at Sea

I used to think bigger was better when it came to cruising, but my latest small-ship trip totally flipped that idea. These boutique vessels feel more like floating boutique hotels than traditional cruises. No crowds, intimate lounges, incredible service, and they can dock at ports the mega-ships just can’t reach. I sailed with Windstar last year and it was the most personal, immersive experience I’ve had at sea. Chef-hosted dinners, longer stays in each port, and an actual chance to connect with the culture.

Now lines like Azamara, Viking, and Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection are upping the game even more. I'm eyeing a Viking cruise next for its TED-style talks and serene Scandinavian vibe. Anyone else switched to small ships lately? What’s been your favorite?
