I am currently on a transatlantic cruise and noticed that when redeeming the daily free coffee benefit through Blue Extras, there is still a small charge applied, such as about 1.20 dollars for a double espresso or 0.80 dollars for a flat white.
When I asked Sailor Services, they explained that the charge is related to tax. However, I noticed that alcoholic drinks are priced as listed on the menu without additional VAT being added separately.
I am not concerned about the small cost, but I am curious whether this explanation is accurate and how the pricing is applied in this situation.
