Ever since the move to SkyTeam, trying to use awards has been painful.
With Star Alliance it wasn’t always easy, but this feels like a different level. Availability is bad, pricing is all over the place, and you can’t even change bookings online. I spent 30 minutes on the phone just to make a change and paid €80 for the privilege.
Then had to cancel entirely because I couldn’t piece together a proper routing home to ARN. Another €80 gone, at least I got the points and voucher back.
Now I’m sitting on two vouchers expiring end of March and SkyTeam availability to Asia is basically nonexistent. When there is space, it’s often Vietnam Airlines pricing at almost double the points of other SkyTeam carriers.
I’ve got the Amex Elite for the vouchers, but honestly starting to question if the stress is worth it.
Anyone else struggling with SkyTeam redemptions lately?
