This story is nuts and honestly makes me angry just reading it.
Going from a $650 rental to $1400 after the fact is insane, especially when the car was returned full, undamaged, and basically just lived in for 3 weeks. Crumbs and a few coins is normal wear, not some deep clean biohazard.
The timing is what really bugs me. An aggressive employee, photo of the plate, then surprise charges once you’re back home with no leverage. That does not feel accidental. And the insurance magically coming back after they said it was resolved just makes it worse.
I have seen way too many Sixt LAX horror stories lately with mystery cleaning or smell fees. Feels like a pattern at this point, not a one off.
Good move disputing everything. I would never rent from Sixt in the US again after this.
