Six weeks testing life in Mexico taught us what 4200 dollars monthly really gets a family

We moved our family from NYC to Mexico City’s Condesa, and it’s been eye-opening. For $1,800 we found a furnished 3-bedroom right on Avenida Amsterdam, double the space of our old 2-bedroom in New York. The kids adjusted fast, and now our mornings start with pan dulce runs for a few pesos and cheap Ubers across town.

It’s not without surprises, health insurance and visas add up, and imported groceries cost more but overall the quality of life feels like a huge upgrade. Having space, weekly cleaning, and extra budget for family trips has made all the difference.
