I’ve booked and fully paid for a villa through Booking.com for a trip later this year. We are a stag group, and before booking I specifically confirmed with the host that such groups were allowed despite the listing stating otherwise, and they responded that we are welcome.
After completing the booking, a new rule appeared stating that a €500 security deposit must be paid in cash directly to the host on arrival. I’m fairly certain this requirement was not shown before I booked.
This feels quite excessive, and I’m concerned about handing over such a large cash deposit without clear protections. I’m also wondering what safeguards exist in this situation and whether Booking.com has any formal process for handling or securing deposits like this.
