Seat disappeared at the gate because of Frontier overbooking

Had a strange experience at ATL flying Frontier.

While waiting at the gate I checked my boarding pass and everything looked normal with an assigned seat. But when boarding started, my seat number suddenly disappeared from the pass.

Gate agents told me I had been selected with a small group of passengers to be removed from the flight because it was overbooked.

I’ve heard of overbooking before but never had my seat removed right at boarding time like that. Has anyone else dealt with this on Frontier?
