Had one of those travel moments today where everything almost worked out… but didn’t.
I was walking around DTW Terminal B with about a 2 hour layover when I noticed a delayed Delta flight going to the same final destination as mine. Thought I might get lucky and get home earlier.
I asked the gate agent if there were any seats left, but they said boarding was starting right then and I’d need to go to the “Help Me” desk instead.
Went over there… and it was completely empty.
So I called the Delta Platinum line and after fighting with the AI assistant for a bit, finally got a real person. They told me there was nothing they could do because the flight was already under gate control, and that the gate agent would have to handle it.
Went back to the gate and waited until the end of boarding to try again, but no luck. The agent apologized but said they needed to get the delayed flight out.
Totally understand it from their side, especially with a delayed flight full of people who want to get moving. Just one of those moments where the timing almost worked perfectly.
Now I’m sitting in DTW eating a yogurt parfait instead of getting home early to see my kids get off the bus.
