SAS blaming ATC for my 40 hour delay after rebooking me onto more delayed flights

Still fuming about this.

Kraków to Toronto in January. First leg delayed, missed my connection in Copenhagen. They rebook me via Amsterdam… except that flight was already delayed too. So I miss Toronto again.

End result was AMS to Paris to Toronto the next day. Arrived about 40 hours late.

Now SAS is denying EU261 compensation saying “air traffic control restrictions.”

Even if the first delay was ATC, how is rebooking me onto an already delayed flight not on them? That second missed connection is what really blew this up.

I’m thinking of escalating to the Danish authority and maybe the Dutch one since I overnighted in Amsterdam.

Has anyone actually beaten the ATC excuse with SAS?
