Same JAL flight is cheaper on Alaska… what’s the catch?

Found a JAL flight that fits perfectly, but buying it through Alaska is around 200 bucks cheaper. Alaska says I’ll have to pick seats through JAL after booking, and JAL’s seat map shows tons of space right now.

Feels almost too good. Do you actually lose anything by booking the JAL-operated flight through Alaska, or is it really just cheaper with a little extra hassle?
