Ryanair offering €50 for damaged bag… has anyone actually gotten full payout?

€50 is basically an insult if the bag was properly damaged.

Under the Montreal Convention they’re liable up to around €1,300+ for baggage damage, but that doesn’t mean they just pay whatever you ask. You usually need proof of purchase or proof of value, photos of the damage, PIR filed at the airport, all of it.

If they’re lowballing you, I’d reply calmly and stick to facts. Something like:

Reference your PIR number

Attach receipt or proof of value

State the replacement cost clearly

Mention Montreal Convention liability limits

Ask for written justification for the €50 figure

Keep it structured and not emotional. The more “legal and boring” it reads, the better.

If they still won’t move, escalate to their ADR body. Ryanair tends to be more reasonable once it goes beyond basic customer service scripts.

Has your bag been declared beyond repair, or are they claiming it’s cosmetic damage?
