Hi everyone,
I would appreciate your input on an issue I experienced during boarding on a Ryanair flight.
I was traveling with a backpack and a small crossbody bag. When told I could not bring both, I placed the smaller bag inside the backpack. The staff then asked me to place the backpack in the size checker. It did fit, although it was slightly tight and compressed at the top.
Despite fitting, they said it did not meet the requirements and required me to pay a 50 euro fee to board.
In addition to this:
When I asked for a receipt or invoice, they refused to provide one
I was told payment had to be made immediately or I would not be allowed to board
I was traveling with three others who had similar bags that also fit the sizer, and they were all charged as well.
One of them noticed a staff member writing down card details manually, which seemed concerning, and began recording the situation. As a result:
She was told to delete the recording or she would not be allowed to board
She deleted the video
Despite this, she was still denied boarding
The entire experience was very concerning.
I would like to understand:
Is this standard practice with Ryanair
If a bag fits in the sizer, can it still be rejected
Is refusing to provide a receipt allowed
Would it be worth submitting a formal complaint
Thank you for any insights.
