On July 28, 2025, Russia’s flag carrier Aeroflot was hit by a large-scale cyberattack that crippled its information systems, forcing the cancellation of over 40 domestic and several international flights—with some reports indicating disruptions to more than 100 flights in total. Two pro-Ukraine hacktivist groups, Silent Crow and the Belarusian Cyber Partisans, claimed responsibility, asserting they infiltrated the systems for nearly a year, destroyed around 7,000 servers, and exfiltrated sensitive passenger and internal data, including executive records. Russian authorities launched a criminal investigation, with Kremlin officials calling the attack "alarming" and describing it as a wake‑up call regarding infrastructure vulnerabilities. Passenger services—including rebooking and refunds—were severely impacted amid the outage.
