We somehow managed to cross wire our Southwest cards and RR accounts years ago and now it’s getting messy.
Our first SW card was in my husband’s name, but it’s always been tied to my Rapid Rewards number. We actually called both Chase and Southwest back then and were told to leave it as is, so we did.
Fast forward to October. We applied for a new SW card in my name, but used my husband’s RR number on the application. His RR number is printed on the card, but all the points from this new card are posting to my RR account instead of his.
Ideally, I want the points from the new card to go to his RR account since it’s his card and his RR number. I know in theory the primary cardholder and RR account are supposed to match, but given that both Chase and Southwest explicitly told us years ago to leave things crossed, we followed the same logic again.
My big fear is calling to fix the new card and accidentally triggering a deeper review. I really don’t want them to suddenly decide the original setup is no longer allowed and mess with our existing points or, worse, our Companion Pass.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Is there a safe way to get the new card’s points redirected without opening a can of worms on the older card?
