Rolls-Royce’s new UltraFan engine has caught my attention in a big way. This beast has a 140-inch fan diameter, making it larger than GE’s GE9X and potentially more efficient. Not only is it designed to run on 100% SAF, but it's modular, quieter, and even eliminates the need for a thrust reverser. And with two variants in the works, it could power everything from narrowbodies to widebodies. This could be a serious leap for sustainability and performance.
What really has GE on edge is how flexible and forward-looking this engine is. The geared architecture, carbon-titanium fan system, and up to 25% fuel burn improvement over earlier models make this more than just an upgrade it's possibly the future. Anyone else think this could shift the balance in the engine wars?
