Rip Current Rescues Spike as Hurricane Erin Churns Offshore

Even with Hurricane Erin staying far out at sea, East Coast beaches have seen a wave of rescues, 60 people were pulled from rip currents at Wrightsville Beach, NC alone. South Carolina and Georgia beaches also reported dangerous currents and swimmer rescues. Some beaches, like in Atlantic City and Massachusetts, are limiting water access or closing altogether due to the life-threatening surf.

It’s wild how calm the water can look, yet these rip currents are silently pulling swimmers out. I always thought I’d recognize the danger, but this really makes me rethink venturing in. Have you ever had a close call in a rip current or changed beach plans due to conditions like this? Share your experience or tips especially if you're used to swimming East Coast beaches!
