We stayed at this property during our engagement trip to Japan. I am an Aspire cardholder and we used two free night certificates for the stay, along with the resort credit to book a spa treatment for both of us. This was right after cherry blossom season in mid-April.
Pros
The service was excellent from start to finish. Check-in was done directly in our room, and staff personally escorted us while explaining all the amenities. We also received a room upgrade along with some special welcome touches for our occasion.
The overall atmosphere of the property is very quiet and relaxing. The environment feels very zen, and it was easy to unwind immediately after arrival. The spa experience was also very enjoyable. For anyone using a single Aspire resort credit, there may be a small additional cost if booking treatments for two people.
The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a very relaxing scent throughout the property. It was one of the most peaceful hotel stays we have had, and guest traffic was generally low except during breakfast hours.
An in-room onsen was a highlight and large enough for two people. Garden rooms are reportedly even more spacious. The rain shower was also a nice feature. We especially liked the hotel pajamas and ended up taking them home.
There are various amenities available on request through the TV system, many of which are complimentary. For Diamond members, the minibar includes free snacks and soft drinks such as chips, chocolate, and soda.
Luggage forwarding was very convenient, with staff handling everything, including pickup from the room. The cost was approximately 2,500 yen per large suitcase. The Japanese garden on the property is also open to guests and is worth visiting for its beauty and tranquility.
Cons
The location is quite remote. It took about 40 minutes by city bus from Kyoto Station, followed by a 10-minute walk. After the first day, taxis were used instead due to long bus wait times. While taxis are more affordable than in Tokyo, trips to tourist areas still cost around $20 to $30.
Breakfast was average compared to expectations for a luxury property at this price point. Other hotels such as Conrad Osaka offered more variety. It was not bad, but not exceptional for this tier.
We would likely not pay cash for this stay. Using free night certificates and resort credits made it worthwhile, but for cash bookings, staying closer to central Kyoto would probably be more convenient and cost-effective.
Overall, we really enjoyed the stay and would consider returning.
