Resy credit didn’t trigger and Amex says it was a third party payment?

Ate at a Resy restaurant in LA and noticed the Amex Platinum Resy credit never posted. Waited a bit, then reached out via chat.


Agent told me the charge wasn’t eligible because it was processed through a “TST third party electronic payment mode.” That explanation honestly made zero sense to me. I paid normally, didn’t use a delivery app, didn’t split a check weirdly, nothing out of the ordinary.


Tried to get clarification so I don’t repeat whatever mistake I apparently made, but they couldn’t clearly explain what caused it. Just said they’d “do me a favor” and manually credit it if I come back in a few weeks and ask again.


Has anyone figured out what actually triggers this issue? Is it certain POS systems, paying at the table via QR, Apple Pay, or something else? Would love to know how to avoid this going forward.
