Had a 15-passenger van booked with Avis for a one-way trip (Georgia → Miami) for a cruise with a group of 9. The booking was prepaid and made months in advance.
Three days before the trip, Avis called to say the vehicle isn’t available. They suggested either:
a full refund, or
showing up on the day and taking whatever (if anything) is available
No equivalent replacement or guaranteed alternative was offered, and nearby locations don’t seem to have suitable one-way vehicles available either.
Trying to understand what options exist in this situation:
Are there any rights or obligations from the rental company for canceling a prepaid reservation so close to pickup?
Has anyone had success getting compensation or upgrades in similar cases?
Any practical alternatives for moving a group this size last-minute (other than splitting into multiple cars)?
