I just finished a 4-night stay at the Regent Shanghai on the Bund. I booked it entirely with IHG points as a Platinum Elite member, and used the 4th night free benefit from the Chase IHG card, which made the value really strong. Cash rates during my stay were over USD $600 per night, while my effective cost came out to around USD $250 per night based on a points promotion.
The hotel is a recent conversion into the Regent brand (2024), and everything still feels very new. The design is elegant, understated, and high-end. Compared to larger luxury hotels, this property feels smaller and more intimate, which made the service feel more personal.
I was upgraded from a Classic room to a Bund View room, and the view was easily one of the highlights of the stay. Waking up to the Shanghai skyline and seeing Pudong light up at night was impressive and exactly what you hope for in Shanghai.
Service throughout the stay was excellent. Staff were attentive and genuinely helpful rather than scripted. One example was after a conversation at the front desk about the breakfast policy change for award stays, they kindly offered complimentary breakfast for three people on the last morning, which was a nice gesture.
Overall, I actually preferred this stay over Regent Hong Kong because the atmosphere here felt calmer and more personal.
One standout spot in the hotel is Condé Bar, which has great Bund views at night. It does get busy though, so reservations are recommended.
There were a couple of downsides. Soundproofing could be improved, as hallway and neighboring room noise was noticeable at times, and you can still hear traffic and river activity even on higher floors. Also, the location is not the most convenient for getting around Shanghai, with Didi rides to other areas often taking 30+ minutes due to traffic.
Another important note for IHG members is that breakfast is no longer automatically included on award stays in Greater China after the March policy change, which was disappointing compared to before.
Overall, this was one of the best points redemptions I’ve had in Asia. Between the upgrade, Bund views, service, and the 4th night free benefit, the Chase IHG card delivered strong value for this stay.
