Reality check on Egypt travel after my recent trip changed my perspective.

While the pyramids were indeed magnificent, the constant harassment from aggressive vendors, tourist traps, and general chaos in Cairo was overwhelming. What you see in carefully curated Instagram shots doesn't show the real experience of navigating the intense crowds, persistent scams, and disappointing tourist facilities that I encountered at major sites.

My biggest lesson was that managing expectations is crucial when visiting Egypt. I learned that hiring a reputable guide is absolutely essential, they can shield you from the worst of the harassment and ensure you're not getting ripped off. I discovered that visiting sites early morning before the crowds and heat was game-changing. The Egyptian Museum was fascinating but desperately needs updating.
