Read your boarding pass carefully or you’ll steal someone’s seat

Was on the last JetBlue flight from LAX to BOS and somehow got caught in the middle of total seat chaos.

My seat was 12C, aisle. First guy comes up saying he’s in 12B, middle seat. I stand up to let him in. Then a loud woman shows up claiming 12B too. Guy checks his paper boarding pass and realizes his seat is actually in row 23. So I stand up again.

Then a second woman comes by, also claiming 12B. Turns out her seat was row 10. I stand up for the third time and quietly thank the universe it’s finally over.

Turns out the common thread was that all of their boarding passes had “Gate 12B” printed on them, which they apparently read as “Seat 12B.”

Moral of the story: gate number is not your seat number. And maybe double check before making half a row stand up repeatedly.
