Rattlesnake encounters on wyoming backroads what i learned firsthand

While road-tripping between Pathfinder Reservoir and Medicine Bow recently, I had a surprise standoff with a pair of rattlesnakes basking right on the asphalt. It gave me flashbacks to a piece I’d read in Oil City News about how rattlers can wander miles from their dens. At first, I was freaked but after chatting with locals and learning more, I realized these snakes aren’t the villains we imagine. They’re just trying to soak up some sun and avoid drama.

What helped me stay calm was knowing that rattlers usually want nothing to do with us. I simply backed away slowly and let them do their thing. I also made sure to be extra cautious while hiking watching where I stepped and avoiding tall grass. If you’re heading to Wyoming’s wild spaces, definitely worth keeping this in mind
