Quitting your job to travel for a year… smart move or terrible timing?

I’m 30 and planning about a year of solo travel around Asia. I’ve got enough savings to cover the trip and a solid cushion for when I get back. No kids, no mortgage, nothing tying me down.

The only real way to make this happen is to quit my job. I’m tired of the PTO grind where you get 2–3 weeks a year, visit one country, then wait another year to do it again. That just doesn’t align with what I want right now.

Friends keep telling me it’s a bad idea to quit without another job lined up, especially in this market. But I’m not emotionally attached to my job, even though I have a good manager and I’m learning. I’m honestly sick of the work anyway.

For those who’ve done long term travel, did you quit without something lined up? Was it worth the risk, or did coming back turn out to be harder than expected?
