I was traveling in northern Italy and ran into a few situations I did not fully understand. I will be going back soon, so I want to know how these things actually work there.
1. Buying stamps
I was trying to send postcards home and was told to go to a tabacchi. I visited several tabacchi in Milan, but none of them seemed to sell stamps. I also could not find them at the airport. Where are stamps normally purchased in Italy?
2. Ordering a glass of wine
At a restaurant I asked for a glass of red wine and the waiter said yes and brought me a glass, but nothing was poured. I assumed the wine would be served after that, but I only had an empty glass. Is there a specific way you are supposed to order “a glass of red wine” in Italy?
3. Getting a taxi
What is the usual way to get a taxi in Italy? Do you call a dispatch number, use an app, or just find them at stands? I am also wondering if language is a barrier when calling taxi services.
I would appreciate any clarification so I can avoid misunderstandings on my next trip.
