Question about Venture X travel credit expiration after flight cancellation

I used my $300 Venture X travel credit to book a United flight, but I later had to cancel the trip. The travel credit was returned to my account afterward.

I’m trying to figure out whether the refunded credit will still expire on its original expiration date or if the cancellation resets the validity period.

I’m also wondering if there are any ways to preserve or use the credit before it expires without making an unnecessary purchase.
