I had a British Airways flight booked from Heathrow to Washington Dulles, departing at 12:10 and arriving at 16:35 on 13th March. The night before departure, BA informed me that the flight was cancelled and rebooked me on an alternative flight the same day at 15:25, arriving at Baltimore BWI instead. The flight itself departed about 45 minutes late and landed roughly 30 minutes late.
Upon arrival at BWI, there was no BA staff available to assist, so I arranged a taxi to reach my accommodation.
I couldn’t find a clear reason for the cancellation, so after returning to the UK, I submitted a compensation claim. BA responded saying they will pay £260 instead of £520, stating that I arrived at my destination within four hours of the original scheduled arrival time.
However, my original destination was Dulles, not Baltimore. My question is whether BA is correct in offering only £260 in this situation, or if the fact that I was rerouted to a different airport means I should be entitled to the higher compensation.
They have also reimbursed the taxi fare.
Would appreciate any insights on whether it’s worth challenging this further. Thank you.
