Had a slightly strange experience leaving Shanghai Pudong and wondering if anyone has seen something similar.
When the officer checked my passport and boarding pass, they called over a supervisor and I was taken to a separate desk. A few agents looked at my passport and something on the computer for a couple minutes. They didn’t ask me any questions and then escorted me straight to security.
For context, I entered China the night before using the 24-hour transit without visa as a US citizen.
My itinerary was Vietnam → PVG → USA on two separate airline tickets.
Everything seemed fine in the end, but I’m curious if this was just a routine check or if they were verifying something specific. I’d like to return to China someday and want to make sure I didn’t accidentally trigger a violation.
