Just a friendly reminder for Bonvoy folks.
Elite benefits like breakfast, lounge access, upgrades, and bonus points only apply when the elite member is actually staying at the hotel. They don’t carry over to friends or family if you’re not there, even if the booking is under your account or made with points.
Recently saw a situation where someone expected full elite treatment for their family while they weren’t present. When the hotel explained the policy, the staff got stuck repeating the same thing over and over. Awkward for everyone.
Most hotel staff really do want to help. They’ll explain options, arrange paid breakfast, or do what they can. But they don’t make loyalty rules and can’t override them because someone has status.
Elite status is meant to enhance your own stay, not as a workaround when you’re not traveling.
Be kind, know the rules, and remember there’s a real human behind the desk.
