Premium demand, higher fares fuel Delta's optimistic earnings outlook

Delta Air Lines delivered strong Q3 results and issued an optimistic forecast for record earnings, driven by booming demand for premium travel and higher ticket prices amid reduced industry seat capacity. The airline’s premium revenue jumped 9% year-over-year, now accounting for 43% of total passenger income, as travelers continue to pay more for comfort and exclusive amenities. CEO Ed Bastian highlighted structural changes in U.S. aviation, including less unprofitable flying and tighter supply, which have strengthened Delta’s pricing power. The carrier expects Q4 earnings between $1.60–$1.90 per share, outpacing analyst estimates, despite uncertainty from the ongoing U.S. government shutdown and air traffic staffing shortages.
