Pre-boarder tried to save seven extra seats and lost it when we sat down

On a January 17 flight from FLL to Houston, a woman and her daughter pre-boarded. Totally legit. The daughter was clearly disabled, no issue there at all.

When we boarded with a mid-A position, they were sitting in row 2. Fine. But their stuff was spread across rows 3 and 4 too. Totes, snack bags, drinks, everything. All in the extra legroom rows.

My husband is tall and really needs the legroom, so we asked whose things they were. She said they were hers and that she was saving the seats for her brother. Claimed he was “right behind us,” even though there was basically no one there yet.

We explained Southwest is still open seating and seat saving isn’t a thing. We sat down. She completely lost it. Grabbed her stuff and went on an expletive-filled rant directed at us.

I’m glad she and her daughter could pre-board. That’s not the issue. But trying to save the middle seat plus two full rows behind you, all extra legroom seats? That’s ridiculous.

This kind of thing is exactly why I’m ready for assigned seating.
