I live 20 to 30 minutes from PortMiami so I’ve always felt lucky. Super easy cruise access.
But this season, and a bit last season too, weekends have been chaos. I keep seeing posts about 1 to 2 hour traffic jams just to get in or out. Uber and Lyft prices from like 9am to 2pm are insane. I’ve even felt the spillover traffic in the surrounding areas.
What’s confusing is… nothing seems dramatically different. Yes there’s construction, but there’s always construction. MSC added a new terminal, but it’s not like the port doubled overnight. Ships are bigger, sure, but not that much bigger.
I haven’t cruised out on a weekend since early 2024 so I haven’t personally sat in the port traffic lately. But all the reports make it sound like a total nightmare now.
For those who’ve done a recent weekend sailing, what’s actually causing it? Is it just more ships stacking up on the same days? Rideshare congestion? Something operational?
Any tricks to avoid the worst of it?
