Waiting to board AUS to MSP and every single accessible seat at the gate is taken by able bodied people scrolling their phones.
Meanwhile I’m standing there on crutches with a leg brace after fracturing my leg just below the kneecap. I’m cleared to fly, but standing around like this is not exactly comfortable.
What really gets me is people clearly looking up, making eye contact, realizing what’s going on… and then looking right back down at their phone like nothing happened.
Yes, I could ask someone to move. But I really shouldn’t have to. I’m 43, not elderly, but I remember when common courtesy was automatic. Same way you don’t park in an accessible space unless you need it, you don’t take those seats if you don’t.
Just be decent. That’s it.
