Platinum status but zero room upgrades lately, is this the new normal?

I’ve stayed at five different InterContinental properties in the US over the last three months and haven’t gotten a single room upgrade. I’m Platinum, and even when I politely ask, I get told the hotel is “full.”

What’s frustrating is that in a few cases I know that’s not true. It just feels like a script at this point. No upgrade, no explanation, end of story.

Is anyone else noticing this lately? I get that upgrades aren’t guaranteed, but when it’s listed as a perk and literally never happens, it starts to feel pointless. Curious if this is just bad luck or if Platinum upgrades are basically dead now.
