Perseid Meteor Shower Peaking Tonight – But Fog May Block the Show for the Bay Area

I made the trip up to the Bay Area just to catch the Perseid meteor shower, and even with the forecast being iffy, I’m so glad I did. I found a spot above 2,000 feet near Mount Hamilton and waited it out with a blanket and some coffee. Around midnight the sky cleared up just enough, and it was pure magic shooting stars every few minutes, some bright enough to make the whole group around me gasp.

There’s something humbling about lying under the stars, just watching the Earth plow through cosmic dust. No telescope needed just patience and a wide-open sky. If you’re thinking of catching it tonight or tomorrow, go for elevation and bring layers. Did anyone else brave the late-night chill to see it
