On my EWR→MXP flight I watched a whole family slow-motion migrate from regular economy (not even E+) up to Premium Plus. I’d checked the seat map earlier and knew those PP seats were supposed to be empty, so when they walked by, double-took, and started whispering, I knew exactly what was coming.
The second “boarding complete” was announced, they grabbed their toddler, their other kid, and the grandparents and marched right into PP like it was general admission seating.
Nope. Flight attendant saw it instantly. They suddenly “didn’t understand English,” but the FA wasn’t playing around told them to either pay for PP or head back to their actual seats, or they’d be removed. They went straight back to the last four rows where they started.
Didn’t realize we’re all just allowed to self-upgrade now. Next time I’ll go ahead and upgrade myself to the crew rest bunk.
