Drives me nuts how often people book hotel rooms for other people and then don’t show up themselves.
No, if the reservation is under John Smith, I don’t care if you’re Jane Smith. Same last name doesn’t matter. If your name isn’t on it, you’re not getting the room.
It’s wild this still surprises people in 2025. This is basic fraud prevention and safety stuff. Hotels drill this into front desk staff constantly for a reason. I’ve seen agents lose their jobs over letting the wrong person into a room, including situations that involved police.
If you travel for work, your name is usually somewhere on the reservation even if you didn’t book it. If it’s not, that’s the problem, not the desk agent.
