I was honestly shocked. I’m staying at the hostel, went down to the café, ordered an espresso and a croissant, opened my laptop and they immediately told me it’d be 10 euros for a half day or 15 euros for a full day to use the space.
The room was basically empty. I just laughed, closed my laptop, finished my food, and walked 15 minutes to another hostel where you can sit in the café for free like a normal human.
I’ve stayed in tons of hostels all over Europe, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and have never had a place charge guests extra just to work in the café. Charge non-guests? Sure. But guests?? Wild.
And honestly the hostel wasn’t even great otherwise… super-firm pod beds, tiny showers that go from boiling to freezing, and now a workspace fee. Won’t be staying again.
Funny thing is, I stayed at the People’s Hostel in Strasbourg and had zero issues. Lyon one is a no from me.
