Update: Two days after the Laos situation, I arrived in Phu Quoc where immigration only asked for my boarding pass. It was a much smoother experience and I am grateful to be here.
Earlier, I obtained a visa from the Laos embassy which was placed in my Zimbabwe passport. I also carried 1200 dollars in cash and had proof of about 16000 dollars in my UK bank account. I had my onward ticket and hotel bookings ready as well. This would have been my 29th country.
After leaving Cambodia and trying to enter Laos, I was denied entry based only on my passport, despite having all the required documents.
Still, I am staying positive and continuing to enjoy the journey and the people I have met. I am not sure where I will go next.
So far, I have been denied entry to Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. I may return to Phu Quoc or consider Malaysia, the Philippines where I have already been, or possibly Hong Kong, although last minute flights are quite expensive.
Wishing everyone safe and happy travels.
