Yesterday I presented my passport card to a TSA officer as I normally do, and it was scanned as usual. However, the officer said the system returned a message indicating “photo not on file, use different ID” or something similar.
I have used this same passport card many times, including at the same airport and checkpoint just a couple of weeks ago, without any issues. It is still valid for several years.
The officer cleaned and rescanned it multiple times, but the same error kept appearing. A supervisor also became involved and insisted that I needed another form of identification. In the end, they accepted my non-REAL ID driver’s license since I did not have anything more prepared.
I am now concerned about what caused this issue and whether it could affect my upcoming international trip in June.
What should a passenger do in a situation where a valid ID is not accepted even though it should be valid?
